My 21 Day Fix Review

21 Day FixI have dieted off and on for years, I have tried workout DVD’s the pills and everything else. I am never really able to get the weight off where I want it or keep it off. I don’t consider myself an unhealthy person, just someone who wants to drop some weight, tone up and really understand what I am doing. That is when I heard about the 21 day fix.

The 21 day fix combines workouts with healthy eating and really watching your portion control. You don’t have to count calories or feel overwhelmed by constantly exactly measuring this and that it comes with some containers that truly makes it easier for you. At first glance when I started with the system I was very excited.

How 21 Day Fix Works

There are basically 2 elements to 21 Day Fix: The nutrition plan (including the containers) and the workout plan itself.

Before we get to the 2 elements, if you haven’t seen the commercial yet, I’d recommend checking it out below just to give you a brief overview of everything (it’s only about 4 minutes long). After that, proceed to reading my in-depth review of the entire program so you can learn all of the details and see how it worked for me.

The Containers

Using the containers for your portion control makes it easy and while you look at the sizes at first and maybe wonder “well that’s not enough”, it actually really is. When you get the food on your plate you will see how much it really is and you will find yourself satisfied. So what you get is 1 of each color of the containers: blue, red, green, purple, yellow and two of the orange containers. Each container is used for a different purpose that breaks down like this:

  • Blue: Healthy Fats & Cheese
  • Red: Protein
  • Green: Vegetables
  • Purple: Fruit
  • Yellow: Carbs
  • Orange: Seeds & Oils

Pretty easy, right? There is some math involved when you go to decide what you get to eat. You will need to calculate your caloric level, which is easily lined out for you in the guide that comes with the program.

Once you have done that, you will know what you can eat. An example of this is if you are allowed say 1800 calories a day, you can have 4 green containers, 3 purple, 3 yellow, 4 red, 1 blue and 1 orange per day.

After you have broken down what you get per day, you will want to find a spacing that works for you. Remember that smaller meals per day is healthier for you overall, especially when you are working out.

Sample Meal Plan

One thing I really like about the meal plan in 21 Day Fix is they actually taste good. You aren’t required to eat some bland, boring food all the time. The combination of tasty meals and the containers that make it extremely easy to measure everything out allows you to easily stick to this program and stay on track. No more guessing games.

Here is a sample meal plan to give you an idea of how to structure your day. Everything on here tastes good, is healthy for you, and keeps you full of energy:

The Workouts

Well, you can’t just eat right, you have to get moving and make your body get into action if you truly want to get lean and fit. The DVD’s will work for any level of training. You can be a professional at fitness or someone who has never worked out before and you will learn how with the 30 min workouts for a full 21 days straight (no days off!). And trust me, you work every major muscle group with these DVD’s.

Now, don’t be scared that it’s 21 days straight of working out. Some of the days are less intense where others are more intense, so you won’t necessarily be killing yourself 7 days a week for 3 weeks. The Yoga and Pilates Fix for example are challenging but are on the lower end of the intensity scale in my opinion.

You can’t claim that you don’t have time because it is only 30 minutes per day. This makes the workouts very doable over the 21 day period, and best yet, it starts a habit. If you aren’t currently active everyday, making a habit of working out is probably one of the best things that you can do for yourself. 21 Day Fix makes this possible without being overwhelming.

There are 2 DVD’s with 6 different workouts:

  • Total Body Cardio Fix
  • Upper Fix
  • Lower Fix
  • Pilates Fix
  • Cardio Fix
  • Yoga Fix

Here is a sample workout week in the 21 Day Fix program:

Each of the workouts is targeted for a specific area and will get you going and the heart pumping. I recommend following the plan exactly as it’s laid out when you first start, but once you go through it, feel free to play around with the workouts and decide what combo you like the best. If you want more leg development for example, throw in an extra lower body fix per week.

When you are working out through the videos, you can modify from what is being shown in the hard hitting version, so there really is something for everyone in these workouts and it will work for you regardless of your current fitness level.

The Trainer & Overall Plan

Autumn Calabrese is a great trainer; you feel energized by her and I love that she reminds you, “If you’re sick of starting over, stop quitting.” I think that is a reminder that we all need sometimes, a little kick in the pants and some tough love.

The meal plan is good – you are allowed to have little cheats here and there, however, if you do there must be a substitution in your weekly eating. The idea of this plan is to eat as clean as you can for 21 days. It is not a huge long term commitment and it will make a difference. Food is fuel and you need to keep that in mind, the better fuel you put in, the better your body is going to be overall. Follow your personal meal plan and get in the habit!

Where to Purchase 21 Day Fix?

The best place to purchase 21 Day Fix is from Beach Body’s official website. Not only is it the lowest price, but by going through their site, you know you’re getting the full program as well as the money-back guarantee.

Final Word

In closing, the 21 Day Fix really works and it is easy to follow if you put in the effort. Every step of the way is planned out for you in the guide, you get encouragement in your workouts, and you will truly feel inspired. If having that motivation isn’t enough for you, wait until you see the body results. There will be muscles that you never noticed before, and you will be so excited when the weight does come off (and it will if you follow the plan!)

You will no longer have that feeling of not wanting to show off, trying to hide yourself, and being scared of the beach. Autumn has truly put together a workable plan that even a constantly busy mom or business person can follow through with.

Just remind yourself you are worth it. Your health is worth the time and effort that it takes to start this plan. You will see that energy levels will be through the roof when you start eating right and working out. You will also just have a better overall feeling of health; chances are you won’t get every little cold that comes through either.

No system is without some learning curve and you do have to follow and learn the process with 21 Day Fix, but once you do, you are on the right path for results. I am so glad that I took the time to give ME a chance by doing this system. I hope you will too.

  1. I just finished my second week second round of the 21 day fix and I have lost…….17 pounds! This program is awesome and actually works IF you follow it. I am so glad my husband found this. Wonderful!!

  2. This is confusing for me. I don’t have enough time to get everything together. I really didn’t understand how to do my meals. The only thing I got right, was the salad.

    • Hey Julie,

It does take a little prep work, but once you get the system down, it’s really easy. You just basically find your target calories for the day (instructions are in the booklet) and then from there you see exactly how many of each colored container you’re allowed each day to reach those calories.

Each color is for a different type of food: red for protein, green for veggies, yellow for carbs, etc.

Just fill them all up and eat throughout the day. As long as you’re hitting the right numbers and containers, you will be good to go.

With any weight loss program, there is going to be some preparation involved in your meals. It will be well worth it once you get the system down :)

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  3. BTW, love this post. In mention to Julie’s confusion and lack of time. When getting ready for your work week – timing is an issue. What I did was: portioned the ingredients and through it all into one container (minus the snack stuff). It was easier to take with me. Snacks – you can through some in a ziplock, after you portion it. All of this allows it to be easier to transport in handbag or tote. No excuses…this works!! For your Dinners – keep them close by for easy use with no ‘excuse – after a while…you’ll develop an eye for the portion. Blessings to you. Don’t give up.
